The Series I case studies were developed to explore ways in which a Mid-Century Modern architectural theme/style could be updated to the 21st century home design while using simple readily available materials. These designs are, by today's standards, small homes sized somewhere around 1,500 sqft. All have been designed to a geometric grid in plan and also incorporate a vertical module.

'Case Studies - Series I'

The material palette for the Series I designs consists of three main elements; wood, masonry, and glass. These are not only used in specific ways but also in specifics locations, giving the final design an order that becomes an expected surprise. While both the plans and elevations for these designs have been developed using a fairly strict grid layout, there is always the opportunity for a little whimsy.

All of these homes have been designed for a modest sized family, providing for 2 – 3 bedrooms. And have all been designed with specific site planning considerations.

Series I Design Elements:

- Window Walls in the living areas opening to the large outdoor living spaces.

- Horizontal low-slope roofs with deep overhangs providing summer

shade for southern walls.

- Large Living areas with an integrated Dining space

- High top, built-in dining table located adjacent to the Kitchen area,

providing additional work counter as needed.

- Built-in furniture/furnishings allows for a more efficient use of the

available room areas.

- In floor heat for a consistent level of comfort in the winter heating months.
